The wasteWOIMA® power plant uses several chemicals in the flue gas treatment system. These chemicals; urea, calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime) and activated carbon contain and reduce the harmful and potentially toxic compounds in the flue gas stream. The nitrogen oxides, sulphides, chlorides and heavy metals are mitigated to levels that are no longer detrimental to people or the environment and only water vapor and CO2 is released to the atmosphere through the stack.
The plant’s flexibility in regard with chemicals is based on its ability to both use alternative chemicals and utilize the design chemicals in different quantities according to their quality.
Calcium hydroxide can be replaced with calcium carbonate and urea with ammonia water. The consumption of the design chemicals is dependent on their porousness and particle size. The choice is based on the local availability and cost of required chemicals.
